Man sentenced to 13 years for rape, common robbery

A 33-year-old man was sentenced to 13 years' imprisonment last Thursday in the Mokopane Regional Court for rape and common robbery

MOKOPANE – Mashudu David Lerama was arrested in September for raping a woman who was jogging on the Percy Fyfe road.

According to Police Spokesperson for Mokopane, Sgt Irene Masingi, the victim parked her car at a filling station and went for an early morning run on 29 September when she was overpowered by Lerama and raped after which he took off with her cell phone.

The victim managed to escape and immediately drove to the Mokopane police station. The police rushed to the scene and the victim identified the suspect.

“Lerama appeared in the Mokopane Regional Court where he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for rape and three years for common robbery,” Masingi reported.
