Man arrested for dagga possession thanks to tip-off

A tip-off by the community led to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect who was allegedly found in possession of dagga in Tafelkop in the Sekhukhune district last Tuesday

LIMPOPO – According to the police, the suspect was found in possession of dagga that was wrapped in a plastic bag at his home.

Motetema police Spokesperson, Const Thelma Makofane, said the arrest of the suspect came after the community informed police officers, who were doing a regular patrol near the stadium, about someone selling dagga in the area.

“Police officers went to the suspect’s home where they conducted a search. They found the suspect in possession of dagga with an estimated street value of R2 554,” he explained.

Makofane said a case of possession with the intent to sell dagga was opened.

The suspect appeared before the Motetema Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday where he was granted R1 000 bail. He is expected to appear before the court again on 1 March on the charges.

“We appeal to the community to continue working together with the police to ensure a safer living environment. The arrest will serve as a clear warning to other criminals and would-be criminals that there is no place for crime in our communities,” Makofane advised.
