Learners found with dagga during school raid
A learner from Seokeng Secondary School in Ceres, Moletjie, was found in possession of dagga which was sealed in a maths set, while another was found with a homemade knife in his school bag
LIMPOPO – The find was made by traffic officers from Aganang and police officers from Matlala and Mashashane who conducted a raid on the school to search for weapons last Friday.
Following the search, learners and teachers gathered for the law enforcement officers to address them.
The learners were told to focus on their studies and stop using drugs and alcohol as such actions could prevent them from realising their dreams.
Speaking on behalf of the Aganang Municipality Traffic Department, Supt Emmanuel Dihangwane said the purpose of the campaign was to ensure every learner felt safe at school as some learners bring weapons to school. “When learners feel safe, they are more likely to produce good results at the end of the year,” he explained.
“We urge everyone in the community to help fight crime in schools. Parents should search their children’s school bags every day before and after school and also make sure their children have been to school and do their homework,” he further said.
School principal, Alfred Phoshoko said times have been tough with learners bringing drugs and weapons to school.
“I’m relieved that justice has been done at our school. What these law enforcement officers are doing really means a lot to us. Parents and teachers are no longer respected by learners.
“We hope they continue to visit us so that we can have peace at school,” he said.
