Mitchell House learners were educated about engineering in a fun way last week when Junior Engineers for Africa (Jefa) visited the school and used Lego Technic to inform them about some basic aspects of the field.
The colourful Lego blocks were used to help Grade 00 to 12 learners to get to know some of the finer aspects of the mechanics of a car such as gears and levers.
Jefa runs workshops at schools and science festivals across the country to help children with problem-solving skills, memory sequences, responsibility and life skills. The learners built objects such as rotating cars, caterpillars, cranes and helicopters.
Judging from the concentration and excitement on the participants’ faces, the week was a huge success.
Achsah Phoshoko, Director of Marketing at Mitchell House said the event is hosted annually to stimulate the learners’ learning abilities and to make learning more exciting for them.
