"So get ready to have your say in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Your vote is your voice."

MOKOPANE – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says of the 203 voting stations in Mogalakwena only residents of Ward 26 which consists of Mountain View about 7 km outside Mokopane, did not register over the past weekend for the municipal elections later this year and this was due to protests.
The ANC thanked everyone who registered to vote in the upcoming municipal government elections.
In a media statement released by the ANC, President Jacob Zuma urged all South Africans to register “so as to fulfil this important duty as citizens of a democratic country”.
The statement continued as follows: “The ANC reminds all South Africans that the right to vote was a hard-won victory and it is the right of every citizen to participate in democratic processes.
“Local government is at the coalface of service delivery and every vote makes a difference in how our municipalities are run.
“Local government elections take place to enable communities to have a direct say in how the country is run.”
Marcelle Maritz, Head Organiser of the Freedom Front Plus in Limpopo said the registration over the past weekend was very successful.
“We helped to register a lot of new voters.
“I believe there will be a great turn in electoral support – from the DA to the Freedom Front Plus – due to recent statements made by the leaders of the DA,” Maritz stated.
Korny Dekker, DA Councillor of Ward 31 concurred that the registration over the weekend was an enormous success.
“We thank all the voters for their commitment and support.
“The DA is very excited for the coming election as this is the most important municipal election before the national election in 2019.”
According to the IEC, the exact date of the 2016 Municipal Elections will only be known when the election is officially proclaimed by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
“So get ready to have your say in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Your vote is your voice.”
