SAPS fun day for schools

SAPS Polokwane held a Sport Against Crime fun day, combined with a Bring a Girl Child to Work day at Capriciorn High School on Saturday.
The day started off with a fun run and fun walk and youths representing secondary schools and tertiary institutions in and around Polokwane participated in the event. Learners also participated in sporting codes such as soccer, netball and debating. Sarah Molwantwa from South African National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (Nicro) talked to the youngsters about the impact a criminal record could have on their future and told them more about the Nicro Programme for children and youth and the SAPS dog unit showed the children how the sniffer dogs find smell drugs, however well it was disguised and stowed away. Two substance abuse survivors also told the youth about their bad experiences during the time they abused substances.
Debating teams from various schools and institutions debated on drug abuse and if the police have the right to intervene in schools and do drug checks.
The fun sporting events saw Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) winning the soccer with Hoërskool Noorderland in second place. TUT also won the netball with Capricorn High School in second place. The Noorderland team won the debating competition, with the University of South Africa (Unisa) in the second place and Rosebank College in the third place.
Moyahabo Pohotona, Marcus Mashau, Pitsi Phela, Hosana Khoza and Isabel Matlou were announced to be the best speakers at the debate.
