MOKOPANE – The police appeal to all drivers of buses and trucks to not stop unnecessarily on the N1 and R101 as numerous people fallen victim to robbers who stalk the roads.
“We advise them to rather stop at the nearest filling station or toll gate.
Be alert when withdrawing money from an ATM as ‘spotters’ notify criminals when you are alone and withdrawing money. They are opportunistic and the police have had numerous incidents where the victims were robbed on their way to their vehicle from the ATM. “It is preferable to not withdraw money alone, especially when you are withdrawing a large amounts,” the police advise.
Always make sure your vehicle’s doors are locked as theft out of vehicles are on the rise. Criminals make use of a gate remote to jam the connection with your car remote preventing the doors from locking and in so doing gain access to the vehicle. Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle, especially not in plain sight, and be extra alert when locking or unlocking your vehicle from a distance.
