Mokopane Mall cash-in-transit heist, no arrests yet

Another security company was the target of a cash-in-transit heist on Sunday morning at the Mokopane Mall only two months after the previous heist at the Crossing Shopping Centre.

MOKOPANE – Mokopane Police Spokesperson, Sgt Irene Masingi, reported: “The security guard went into the Pick n Pay to collect the money bags when an armed suspect pointed a gun in his back and demanded the guard to leave the Mall via the eastern entrance.

The suspect then grabbed the bag and the guard’s 9 mm parabellum and fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a silver GTI Golf.”

It is still not known how many suspects were in the vehicle.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Masingi further said: “No suspects have of yet been arrested and investigations are ongoing.”

The police are appealing to anyone with information to contact Warrant Officer Thomas Makhubela at 071 351 7267.

Louis Jordaan, Centre Manger, told Bosveld: “The whole incident happened within minutes and we are very glad that no one was hurt.

Strong security systems have already been set in place at the mall, but after the incident we have decided to heighten the security measures even more.

Clients can rest assured that their safety is our number one priority.”
