Meet Polokwane’s Miss Teen Planet

Sukoluhle “Suu” Sibanda, a 14-year-old learner from Eagle’s Nest Christian High School was chosen as Miss Teen Planet in Bulgaria on 28 June.
She also won the title of Miss Teen Talent at the same pageant for singing one of Adele’s songs, ‘Someone like You’.
The Grade 10 learner was accompanied by her mother, Thapelo to Bulgaria and describes the event as exciting and the winning of the crown as unexpected. She admitted that she worked very hard to win the crown and felt nervous and very relieved when she heard she had actually won. She is also a finalist in the Miss Mini South Africa competition which will take place from 4 to 8 October in Klerksdorp. She practices modelling every Tuesday afternoon at a modelling school in Polokwane.
“The winner will go to Tokyo to participate in the Little Miss Universe competition,” she enthuses.
She plans to study Media Studies or Communications when she finishes school but also wants to operate a modelling school and aspires to winning the Miss South Africa crown in a couple of years’ time. She sees her modelling as a way to reach out to people through beauty “because you can help people and use your sash to fundraise for other people,” she says. She especially wants to help alleviate poverty through the work she is doing.
