Franco Marx: DA candidate for ward 39 (Tom Naudé, Noordskool, Eduan Park, and Welgelegen). Marx has been a ward councillor for two years and believes he has the necessary experience his work as councillor. His legal background provides an advantage in helping the people in the ward, he says. “I know the system so I know how everything works.” Marx says the changes he wishes to make include to have potholes fixed as well as to address water issues: “I’d like to place more pressure on the munici
Tiny Chidi: DA ward councillor candidate for ward 20 (Polokwane Game Reserve area, Peter Mokaba Stadium, Bendor, Penina Park, Fuana and Flora Park). Chidi says what makes her stand out from other parties’ councillors is that she has a communications strategy and that she is transparent, honest and easily reachable. “I want to build an interpersonal relationship with the community and myself and I believe I have innovative ideas to bring to the table,” she says. Raisibe Meisie: ANC candidate ward 39 (Tom Naude, Noordskool, Eduan Park, Welgelegen). ” I will be working hard to make the changes that people need and that makes me the best candidate for the ward. As a candidate who represents the people I cannot make changes that the community do not want. I am in touch with the community I am standing for and will follow the lead they give me.” She added the changes that she would like to bring to the community. “I will make sure to engage with the commun
Thilivhali Solomon Mashau: ANC candidate for ward 20 (Polokwane Game Reserve, Peter Mokaba Stadium, Bendor, Penina Park, and Fauna and Flora Park): “Here it is all about the people and the needs they have. When I stand for them, I stand for no party, just the community and the people who voted for me,” Mashau said. He added that the changes he would like to make in the community he serves is that the needs of the community must be looked at first. He said that he can be held responsible for pr
Joey Williams – DA Candidate for Ward 19 (Westenburg, Nirvana and downtown). “What makes me stand out is that I am motivated by the policies of the DA. I am a leader in the community. Being a teacher by profession, I have taught two generations of the community so I am close to a lot of people.” He says he has a list of grievances from the people in his area and one of the things that he will focus on is providing quality education. “I want to erect a primary school and a clinic because most old people do not have cars and they have to walk long distances to get medical assistance.” He believes in less talk and more action. “People can hold me to my promises. I am dedicated to serving my community. I will do everything in my power to make sure I get things done.”
Mariette Pretorius – DA Candidate for Ward 22 (Between Dorp and Grobler Streets, Suid and Webster Streets and Ivy Park and Ivydale plots). Mariette says she gets to connect with people on the ground. “You have to know what the issues are and be a good communicator and marketer. I listen to the voters and know what their issues are.” She says she will bring about change by communicating the community’s issues to the municipality and the council. “There should also be some activities for the youth.” She says this can be done by making more sport facilities available to the youth. “Residents can hold me accountable to my promises to a certain extent. I cannot be held liable for things that are the municipality’s responsibility.”
Len Meyer – EFF Candidate for Ward 22 ( Between Dorp and Grobler Streets, Suid and Webster Streets and Ivy Park and Ivydale plots). Len says his passion for people is the number one thing that makes him stand out. “I don’t talk a lot and do nothing, I get things done. I also want to become part of the solution and not the problem. I make sure I connect with people on a personal level.” Len wants to tackle the issue of unemployment in the city. “There are a lot of unemployed but qualified young people in my ward so I want to bring real sustainable jobs that will help community members and their families live better lives. When I am councillor, I will make sure unemployment is halved within a short space of time.” He says promises are lies, he will commit to bringing about change in his ward.
Mashoto Mashiane – EFF Candidate for Ward 39 (Tom Naudé, Noordskool, Eduan Park, and Welgelegen). “I am young, vibrant and the future of the EFF,” says Mashoto. “I am also one of the youngest candidates thus far so I will bring a new level of energy.”
She wants to reduce unemployment levels and the current crime rate in Polokwane. “ I think the community can hold me to my promises. I will make sure I keep all my promises even if it kills me. I will do whatever I can to make sure I deliver on these promises.”
Mashole Peta – EFF Candidate for Ward 19 (Westenburg, Nirvana and downtown). “I genuinely want to help people,” says Mashole, “especially those who do not have title deeds to their houses.” Mashole says once he is councillor, he will make sure roads are tarred and clinics are built in his community. “Most people don’t know that they have a constitutional right to ask about their cases so I will make sure they get follow-up on their cases.” He says he will make it his mission to ensure the municipality delivers proper services. “People can rest assured that I will keep my promises.”
