POLOKWANE – In one incident, a resident was billed over two months and was forced to pay a fine as the bill stated they used more water than what was allocated to them.
Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, said unfortunately, the municipality cannot comment on a general statement without assessing details on the account in question. “The account holder is advised to bring the matter to the attention of the municipality’s revenue section so the claim can be investigated. The municipality has announced in several instances that if residents experience any issues with regard to incorrect billing, they should approach the municipality so their concerns can be investigated and attended to. If a person experiences a problem while dealing with a junior officer, they should speak to the supervisor who is the assistant manager,” he said. “Residents should remember that the municipality sometimes has to do estimations since we do not always have access to the meters in order to accurately take the water and electricity reading. This might result in residents having credit at the municipality or owing the municipality. We urge residents to bring all billing issues to the municipality’s attention”.
