Giyani muni’s Mashali is not afraid to crack the whip

The newly elected ANC Chief Whip in the Greater Giyani Municipality, Richard Mashali, says the tendency of councillors dodging meetings and earning salaries every month without doing their jobs, is over.

LIMPOPO – Mashali says he plans to closely monitor every programme in the municipality to ensure everyone does their part.

“The councillors must submit detailed descriptions of the programmes in their respective portfolios so I can monitor their contribution to growing and strengthening the municipality. This does not mean they must simply submit programmes for the record’s sake, there should be action on the ground to prove everyone involved is working and doing their part,” he said.

He added every councillor should have a hands-on apprach and be actively involved in all their portfolio activities.

“The days of simply submitting programmes without any action is over. I will monitor every programme closely and call those to account where I see no progress,” he said. He added that under his watch everyone, including the mayor and speaker, will account for their actions.

He says by doing this, he plans to strengthen the municipality and government as a whole.

Mashali, a teacher by profession, says it is important for people to work with honesty and dedication when they are given a responsibility to perform a specific duty in government in order to leave a positive legacy people will remember when their term ends.

“You don’t want people to say your predecessor was better at the job than you are, it would mean you are failing the government and the ANC,” he concluded.
