Request for speed humps in main streets denied

Due to drivers speeding in Suid Street and Marshall Street, residents decided to ask the municipality for speed humps in these streets to force drivers to reduce their speed.

POLOKWANE – Municipal Spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, says that the installation of speed humps is not possible in main streets, particularly in the Central Business District main streets.

“The streets mentioned above are main streets which are part of the Integrated Transport plan or systems. They are also reserved for emergency circumstances. The complaint procedures are as follows: All public complaints are lodged through a relevant ward committee councillor who will report the matter to the relevant department.”

He says the request for changes in road signage, markings or any road-and-storm water related service that affects the initial design of that particular service, must be done through the relevant ward councillor.

“This will then be brought to the Departmental Operation and Maintenance Division for inspection to assess the feasibility of the request before it can be deemed possible for implementation.”
