LIMPOPO – Daniel Tsima (33) was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for his involvement in armed robberies that took place in 2009. He was sentenced in the Jane Furse Magistrate’s Court on 14 October 2016.
On 18 January 2009, Tsima and his three accomplices, Jimmy Mogashoa, Tumi Maloma and Kgaogelo Mokgomogane were hitch-hiking on the road to Jane Furse when they were given a lift. Along the way, they pointed a firearm at the driver of the vehicle and robbed him of his cell phone and money before they put him in the boot of his car and drove off.
Along the way, the car overturned and the victim managed to open the boot and escape into nearby bushes. A motorist stopped at the accident scene with the intention to assist. Unfortunately, the motorist was shot dead by one of the men. Emergency personnel were robbed of their cell phones and money as soon as they arrived at the scene. Tsima and his accomplices fled in the deceased motorist’s vehicle.
After a long investigation by the Hawks, Tsima was arrested and confessed to being involved in the armed robberies. He assisted with the investigation which led to the arrest of one of his accomplices, Mokgomogane, who was later acquitted of all charges.
Mogashoa passed away due to natural causes before he could be arrested and the last accomplice, Maloma, is still at large. “We appeal to members of the community to inform the police of the whereabouts of Tumi Maloma,” said Captain Matimba Maluleke.
