Talking cars with ‘bug fan’ Mohamed Halim

BONUS had a chance to speak to Mohamed Halim about his vintage car.

Halim, from Evendale in Polokwane, drives a Volkswagen Beetle 1958 model… this car fanatic is pleased that his car makes him look good.

Q: What do you love about your Beetle?

A: Everything about it, especially the indicators in the side pillars. It has a stock 1600 motor and has been brought back to life with a nice spray job by Automotive Concepts in a pearl orange colour. The interior was re-upholstered and the original front seat customised to make it look and feel more sporty.

Q: What makes it stand out?

A: The condition of the car makes it stand out. My car is attractive but also comfortable and powerful. It’s got some special features that were considered luxuries when it first came out.

Q: Is there anything you would want to change?

A: In future, I might change the engine from a 1600 to a 2.0-litre turbo engine. Going with the latest trends, we fitted a stretch look 15*9 rear wheel and 15*8 front wheel with 3SDM wheel and roadstone tyres. The final touch was an extreme drop of the suspension by local motor enthusiasts, Deon and Ouboet.

Q: Would you allow anyone else to drive it?

A: A family member is welcome but no-one else must even think about driving it.
