CDM eager to improve service delivery
"R70,5 million has been put aside for the Molemole Municipality's 2016/17 projects" - CMD Mayor, John Mpe
LIMPOPO – During the Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) district council Imbizo at the Eiselben Sports Ground recently, residents of Botloko had the opportunity to raise their biggest service delivery concerns.
Clean water, tarred roads, road safety, and street lights were among the issues the residents want the council to address.
One of the elderly residents, Thamsanqa Chepape, from Ga-Ramokgopa village said one of her biggest concerns were the roads which remain untarred. “What worries us most is if it rains, the roads are left with deep dongas which make it unsafe for people to travel on, especially children and the elderly,” she said.
“Street lights are another concern because not only can we not see the damaged roads when travelling at night, it also leads to an increased crime rate. Many people in our communities have been robbed and even murdered in these dark streets,” she added.
Molemole Municipality Mayor, Edward Paya, said it is long overdue to give their people the service delivery that was promised. “This will all be addressed in our term projects in which we plan to bring service delivery to the people,” said Paya.
CDM Mayor, John Mpe, said it was important for residents of Botlokwa to attend the gathering and voice their concerns as this would give the municipality an idea of what was still needed by communities. “People’s views assist us a lot when it comes to service delivery which is why it is so important that they take part in meetings so we can hear their concerns and do something about them,” Mpe said.
“R70,5 million has been put aside for the Molemole Municipality’s 2016/17 projects. The Mohodi and Nyakelane water supply is one of the projects which is already in the construction stage,” he said.
“The municipality has done good work in previous years and we pride ourselves on that, however, it will not stop us from doing even more to better the lives of our people,” he concluded.
