WATCH: MEC explains her plans to bring stories of the people to rural areas and to bring local content to the movie theatres.

POLOKWANE – The MEC of Sport, Arts and Culture, Onicca Mokgobedi Moloi, invited learners from rural areas in the province to join her for a screening of the blockbuster film, Queen of Katwe on Thurday, 27 October at Ster-Kinekor, Mall of the North.

The MEC’s guests started arriving at 13:00 and by 14:00, all 980 were at the cinema where they were met by the MEC and told about her plans, together with the management of Ster Kinekor, to bring stories of the people to rural areas and not just big cities and to bring local content to the movie theatres.

Youth from all over Limpopo watched the all-star African women cast film, set in Kampala, Uganda.

“The film is about a young girl who rose from a poverty-stricken area to shine on a world stage by playing chess. Through sport, she was able to break free from the shackles of poverty, and I want young people from all over to see that the department of sport is there for them to grow no matter where they come from,” Moloi said.

The learners were each treated with a cold drink and a bucket of popcorn to enjoy during the film.
