Ntsikwane: More than just a sultry voice
Ntsikwane Raphesu is a 33-year-old Afro Soul singer based in Polokwane.
POLOKWANE – She currently has two albums out and has performed on numerous stages around Polokwane and as well as other areas.
Growing up in a musically-inclined family meant that 33-year- old Ntsikwane did not have to look far for her musical inspiration. The Afro-soul songstress not only sings but plays the guitar as well, a skill she says she has started taking more seriously lately.
She also writes all her own songs which is something very rare in the music industry. She is inspired by the likes of Sade and Lizz Wright.
Raphesu currently has two albums under her name. The first was called Wonderful and was released in 2007. The second, titled The Soul Experiment, came out in 2014.
She has an immense love for the arts in general but did not just want to focus on music. She runs a drama school called Dramatology Performing Arts Academy, teaching drama to kids aged between seven and 16.
Although she is a performer at heart, she admits that she has moments when she is overcome by nerves, but handles it like the professional she is.
She has big plans for her future but has not forgotten to be a shining light to other people as well.
“I plan to turn my Dramatology into an academic arts school. Musically, I would love to tour Europe and Canada and perhaps even live there. Locally, I would also like to work with Zonke and Msaki,” Raphesu said.
Her music is available on iTunes, Amazon, Shazam and CDBABY.
Raphesu says some of the memories that she will always cherish include being on a festival line-up with the legendary singer Ray Phiri and Simphiwe Dana.
