‘The water situation is now severe’ – muni
The reservoir levels are beginning to decline and high catchment areas will start to experience water shortages warns the muni

POLOKWANE – Polokwane Municipality released this statement on Monday afternoon. It reads as follows:
The municipality has received notification of severe drought from the Flag Boshielo dam which has resulted in shortage of water supply from Olifantspoort plant to areas of supply including Polokwane since weekend..”
“Due to the dam level being extremely low the Dept of Water and Sanitation has reduced the water flow from Flag Boshielo Dam… as a result all the areas of supply from the plant will experience water shortages.”
The situation is now severe.
This means that areas in the high catchment which receive water when the reservoir levels are at 25% and above will start to experience shortages.
The municipality will provide relief to affected areas through water tankers.
Reservoir levels on Monday Afternoon were as follows:
- 50 Ml at 25%,
- 30 Ml at 15%,
- 30 Ml at 15%
- Potgieter at 25%.
The public is advised to limit usage of water to domestic and human consumption only. Watering of gardens is prohibited.

Flag Boshielo Dam – 20%.
Blyderivierpoort Dam – 41,8%.
Loskop Dam – 44,7%.
De Hoop Dam – 82,7%.
