EFF takes Ward 10 in by-election vote

Results from the by-election that took place yesterday (Wednesday) are in and the most significant occurrence is that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) snatched Polokwane Municipality’s Ward 10 from the ANC with 2,206 vote.

LIMPOPO – The ANC received 1, 807 votes, while the Forum4Service Delivery got 56 votes. This means, Jonas Mothapo is the new ward councillor.

Provincial Electoral Officer, Nkaro Mateta said the overall turnout in ward 10 was 48.09%.

“The ANC won Ward 3 of the Lim 345 with 2053 votes (76.4%). The EFF received 387 votes, while the independent candidates got 45 votes. The overall turnout of voters in the Lim 345 was 51.7%.

A ward vacancy in Lim 345 existed because of the passing away of a ward councillor and in Polokwane because of a councilor’s resignation” she said.

Communication Minister Faith Muthambi, who is a member of the inter-ministerial committee in charge of elections, said the by-elections went well without any challenge. She said the voting stations opened on time and the turnout of voters was good. “People should know that an election is not a war. We must tolerate each other,” she continued.

The contestants for the Lim 345 were, Ntsako Lauward Ngobeni of the ANC, Mkateko Isaac Mdaka -(EFF) and Ntsako Samuel Baloyi- independent candidate.

In Polokwane’s Ward 10, the contestants were Tlou John Matlou – (ANC), Jonas Evans Mothapo (EFF) and Andries Matidi Makhafola- Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD).

The IEC’s Nkaro Mateta said considering no complaints were lodged, the by-elections went well.
