Tech-savvy teacher elevates her teaching method
For Technical High School Tom Naudé teacher, Durethe Oosthuizen, interacting with learners while writing notes on the board is essential to her teaching style.
POLOKWANE – She says she wanted to be able to keep an eye on learners who, the moment she turned her back to them to write on the board, would become distracted or rowdy.
“I wanted something I could write on and still face the children. By doing this I never turn my back on them and they do not have the chance to become unruly,” she explains.
Facing the students, Oosthuizen writes or types on a screen before her and then her notes appear on the white board behind her.
“You can even save the work and go back to it later. You can also print it out for learners who are absent due to illness. It makes my work so much easier and you do not have chalk all over your hands all the time.”
The learners in her class say they prefer this method.
