POLOKWANE – Reading is a valuable pastime and ideal for improving your general knowledge while also increasing your vocabulary.
Two learners from Mitchell House, Ameera (10) and her brother, Faizaan Gani (12) not only enjoy reading, they are also aspiring authors who enjoy writing in their spare time, whether at home or at school.
They share a thirst for knowledge and have a great love for animals and nature, a love they want to share with the world through their writing.
“We have each written and published a book through which we aim to raise awareness of South Africa’s unique and beautiful culture and wildlife. Both our books have gained recognition worldwide and as a result we have been invited to launch our books at five international Book Fair venues,” Fariaan said.
Ameera’s book, titled A Dassie’s Tale, tells the life story of a Dassie, a rock badger native to South Africa, while Fariaan’s book, A Galjoen’s Tale, is about a fish native to South Africa’s fate.
“Our parents are so proud and excited of us and the opportunity we received. It is difficult to say who, between them and us, are more excited about the prospect,” Fariaaz joked.
“Along with writing about animals and South African culture, I also write about Nelson Mandela to educate those who do not know him or what great things he did for South Africa. These stories will be published soon,” Ameera added.
Mitchell House Headmaster, Andrew Cook, said he is greatly impressed by the siblings’ talent and praised the fact that their parents not only recognised their talent but encouraged and supported it to such an extent that they could publish their books.
“When parents are involved in their children’s talent, it encourages them to be more active in what they are passionate about. Ameera and Faizaan are dedicated learners and their writing does not affect their schoolwork at all and it gives us great pride to support them,” he said.
The two talented authors hope to inspire anyone who reads their books and aspire to become world-renown authors.
