Truck driver arrested after fatal N1 south crash

Three people died and seven sustained serious injuries in an accident on the N1 south this morning

LIMPOPO – Three people died and seven sustained serious injuries in an accident on the N1 south between a double cab bakkie and a truck in the early hours of Friday.

It is alleged the bakkie, transporting 15 people and towing a trailer, was travelling on the N1 south from Polokwane to Pretoria when a truck made a U-turn near the Kranskop Toll Plaza, causing the driver of the bakkie to lose control of the vehicle which overturned, said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“Three people were declared dead at the scene and seven with serious injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital,” he confirmed.

Police arrested the driver of the truck and he will appear in court soon on charges of culpable homicide.

Investigations are still ongoing.
