LIMPOPO – Police continue to crackdown on trio crimes in the province through 24-hour intelligence led sting operations which are being rolled out in all clusters. The latest success comes after two suspects, aged 26 and 32-years-old, were intercepted while en route to go and commit a business robbery in the Groblersdal area.
Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the two suspects were arrested shortly after police members pulled off the road and searched their vehicle at Brooklyn village in the Nebo Policing area. During the search it was found that the vehicle they were travelling had false registration numbers.
“A 9mm pistol with 8 rounds and magazine, a blue dash light, 4 black balaclavas, a pair of police handcuffs and 3 caps, 2 sets of registration numbers, black tape, 8 black heavy duty cable ties, 8 pairs of gloves and 2 bag packs were also recovered during the search.”
He added that these suspects have been linked to a series of crimes committed in the in the Burgersfort, Ga-Matlala, Nebo and the surrounding areas. “These crimes, committed while using a blue light, range from armed robbery, carjacking, business robbery and conspiracy to commit business robbery. They have also been linked to a business robbery which was committed at a local restaurant some days back.”
The suspects will appear before the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of armed robbery, business robbery, carjacking,
possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition, blue light and handcuffs as well as the conspiracy to commit business robbery.
Meanwhile in the Ramushu Section, Ga-Masemola outside Lebowakgomo, a 25-year-old man was arrested for the possession of explosives and explosive equipement.
93 explosives, equipment and tools estimated to the total value of R150 000 were recovered.
The suspect will appear before Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The origin of these items is still being investigated, said Ngoepe.
