Two brothers relive their nightmarish ordeal

One of the victim's a 15-year-old boy was attacked and hit on the head during the incident

MOKOPANE – The cold, chilly screams that woke Ashleigh Mosi (25) up on Saturday, 17 June around midnight were those of his younger brother, Athertor (15). Upon inspection, two robbers were found in the living room of their house in Dudu Madisha Drive.

Ashleigh explained to Bosveld that one of the robbers held his brother in the living room.

“I ran to the living room and found two men, one of them holding my brother. I just saw blood and all that went through my mind was to save my brother. I grabbed my brother, dragged him into my parents’ bedroom and we locked ourselves in the room. I heard my parents arriving home and shouted to my mother to come quickly as there were robbers in the house.”

Their mother Idah, said she and her husband, Stanford, left prior to midnight to fetch their daughter who arrived in Zebediela from Zimbabwe. She said they did not activate the alarm as their youngest son was still watching TV and Ashleigh was asleep in his bedroom.

“When we arrived home I heard Ashleigh screaming so I immediately called Suricat security and we found the children locked in our bedroom. Athertor was bleeding from a head injury and we rushed him to the doctor. Fortunately the injury wasn’t serious but he received stitches and his face is still swollen,” she said.

Ashleigh said he believes the intruders gained access through a window in the living room.

“A brick was found in the living room which was used to attack my brother. He cannot remember much of the attack because he fell asleep in front of the TV. The suspects attacked him while he was asleep and knocked him unconscious.”

When the parents entered the house, the thieves had already left. The family’s flat screen television is stolen.

“We had just moved into this house two months ago and now my children are too scared to live here, and asked if we can move. Every day you hear about crime in our area. It’s getting out of hand,” Idah says.

One of Suricats reaction officers Johnny Correia confirmed that they arrested one suspect later that evening in an empty house in the area and handed the suspect over to the police.
