POLOKWANE – In a statement released by the department, it states that while they respect the notion of innocent until proven guilty, they are equally disappointed in the situation.
The doctor was arrested on Wednesday, 5 July, after police followed up on information received on allegations of suspicious possession of illegal drugs.
“Doctors have taken an oath to look after the well-being of our people and as such they are consequently expected to uphold the highest moral fibre in the society, and the alleged act serves to undermine and brig the name of the profession into disrepute,” the statement read.
The department says they remain resolute in their condemnation of any illegal acts, in particular, those that seek to undermine government efforts to fight against drug abuse.
The department further says it will follow the case closely whilst providing necessary assistance to law enforcement agencies, in ensuring that justice is dispensed expeditiously.
