Many residents of the city harbour a deep seated love and appreciation for jazz, as was evident from the great number of people who flocked to Mugg & Bean Savannah Mall on Friday night to listen to talented saxophone player, Arianna Cana Mackenzie.
Guests were visibly moved by her renditions of jazz classics, calling out and applauding when Cana Mackenzie, whose stage name is simply Arianna, played particularly difficult movements flawlessly. She also played to a wider audience with modern favourites like ‘Careless Whisper’, ‘Fly me to the moon’ and even the Abba chart topper, ‘Dancing Queen’.
Mugg & Bean Manager, Frankie Moawasha says owner Sarie van der Spuy discovered Arianna and arranged for her to play at the Savannah Mall restaurant. Arianna hails from Cuba and is visiting relatives in Polokwane.
“It was a great evening and we were happy to see so many people enjoy the show. We don’t have any plans to have other musicians play here in the near future, but we are looking at bringing Arianna back, since she was such an obvious hit with our guests,” he says.
