Funeral insurance provider Avbob recently launched a nationwide poetry competition with the theme ‘I wish I’d said’ aimed at compiling a collection of poems for individuals who need to express their feelings and bring messages of hope to the country.
Andrew Mathebula, Avbob Limpopo Provincial Manager explained that the competition was open to all 11 official languages and writers of any age may enter. Poems will be judged by a panel of editors and poets whose work is selected to appear on the website will receive a R300 incentive.
Each language category will have a selected winner who will be awarded prestigious prizes at a prize giving event in March 2018.
Mathebula called upon the public to participate as possible talent can be unearthed, potential that nobody has noticed before that can turn into a possible career. “Our country is full of sad and negative stories and I would like to see people write positive, uplifting stories about a bright South Africa, that is what I would have written about,” he explained.
