Limpopo SAPS crackdown on rhino poaching syndicate

A tactical joint operation was conducted along the N1 North near Musina, on Wednesday

LIMPOPO – The operation comprised of the Crime Intelligence Unit, the SAPS-Borderline Unit, the Endangered Species Unit and private security, including Tracker.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says during the operation, two suspects aged 59 and 38-years-old, were arrested and the following items were recovered:

– One 375 hunting rifle.

– Nine rounds of 375 ammunition.

– One silencer.

– One knife.

– One suspected stolen motor vehicle.

“These suspects will appear before the Musina Magistrates Court soon.”

Meanwhile, outside Polokwane, a stock theft suspect arrested outside Polokwane, attempting to sell 5 stolen cattle.

The man was travelling in a Ford Ranger towing a trailer, both with Gauteng registration numbers. He was arrested at the Brakfontein farm in the Bosbelt area along the R81 road

“The owner of the farm identified the five cattle, but the origin of both the car and the trailer are still being determined,” he said.

The suspect will appear before the Molemole Magistrates Court soon.

Ngoepe says these arrests form part of a concerted effort to fight incidents of illegal poaching and stock theft in Limpopo.
