LIMPOPO- Jacob Fancy Motau (44) was sentenced for fraud, corruption and impersonating a police officer by the Groblersdal Regional Court on Tuesday, 26 September 2017.
According to provincial Hawks Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, Motau demanded money from the complainant, who was arrested for operating illegal gambling in Bela Bela, in exchange of alerting him of police raids for illegal gambling in the area.
Motau, who was suspended as a police reservist, collected money from the complainant on a number of occasions, until the complainant got fed up and reported the matter to the police.
“Motau was arrested in August 2015, immediately after receiving money from the complainant,” he said.
The Acting Provincial Head, Brigadier Thabo Ramela, thanked all the parties who were involved in the investigation.
“We will continue to fight corruption until we come out victorious,” he added.
