Ward Councillor granted R1 000 bail

The councilor appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court this morning.

POLOKWANE –  The ward councillor arrested last week for alleged corruption appeared before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday 7 November) and was granted R1000 bail.

Hawks Spokesperson, Capt Matimba Maluleke says as part of her bail conditions the accused was advised not to contact the witnesses.

She will reappear before the court on 14 December 2017.


Parties band together against corruption as ward councillor appears before court

POLOKWANE – Members of the DA, EFF and ANC were seen outside the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court this morning, in solidarity against corruption.

This comes after an ANC Councillor was arrested last week for allegedly soliciting bribes from jobseekers hopeful to be included in the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) in her ward.

DA Councillor, Khetan Vallabh says bribing some of the most vulnerable people in the community, namely those who desperately seek work, is simply ‘despicable’.

The EFF have also condemned the actions of the councillor, saying their caucus will not allow council to be seen as harbouring hardcore criminals.

EFF, Capricorn District Chairperson, Ronny Malema commended the judiciary for doing a ‘sterling job’ by denying the councilor bail.

“She must remain in custody. We further alert those involved in shoddy corrupt arrangements to come forward before its too late,” he said.
