The city’s streets roared with the sound of nearly 8 000 bikers who attended the ninth annual Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club (MCC) Rally on the weekend.
Though it was a successful event, former Sapa Yopa MCC President Sarel Nong said the rally had a sad conclusion with the death of Sapa Yopa member Billy Phuti Moloto who died during an accident on the R101 early Sunday morning. Nong said Moloto allegedly misjudged a curve in the proximity of the construction of the N1 bypass near Sun Meropa and was certified dead on the scene.
He added that Moloto originates from Moletji but was working in Rustenburg. He will be buried in Polokwane on Saturday.
Under the leadership of Sapa Yopa President Johz Mamabolo bikers from as far as Nigeria was expected to attend the event.

A gala dinner was hosted at a local hotel with Sapa Yopa members and well as representatives from Capricorn District Municipality, Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and organisers of the annual Mapungubwe Annual Music Festival.
This year’s rally was hosted under a sports theme and focussed on helping underprivileged local sport clubs of which the paravolleyball team is one of the beneficiaries.
Polokwane came to an almost standstill with the proceeding of the mass ride through the city towards Turfloop in Mankweng where various donations were made and residents treated to some stunt riders showing off their skills.
