UPDATE: Two more suspects arrested in connection with the Westenburg double murder

All accused face charges of double murder, assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) and attempted murder

POLOKWANE – Three suspects arrested for the double murder which took place in Green Side Ext. 44 in the early hours of Monday 1 January 2018, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court and were remanded in custody until 9 January 2018.

The men appeared on two counts of murder, two counts of assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) and attempted murder.

This follows the incident where two groups of men, one from Ext. 44 and the other one from Ext. 71, assaulted each other with a various assortments of objects until two people from the one group were killed.

According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspects then proceeded to one of the houses nearby where assaulted a couple and their two boys (aged 17 and 18) before they fled the scene. All four victims were stabbed using sharp instruments and sustained serious multiple injuries throughout their bodies. They were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, two more suspects (aged 19 and 22) were arrested this morning (Wednesday), bringing the total of five suspects arrested in this matter. The last two will make their first appearance before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday 5 January 2018 on two counts of murder, two counts of assault with grievous bodily harm (GBH) and attempted murder, added Ngoepe.

Police investigations continue.

POLOKWANE – A total of three suspects (aged between 20 and 23) have been arrested in connection with the double murder which took place in Green Side Ext. 44 in the early hours of Monday 1 January 2018, confirmed Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

One deceased from Ext. 71 was identfied as Molebatjie Pheme (20) years old and the other one is still unknown.

All three suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 3 January 2018.

POLOKWANE – Two suspects have been arrested for two counts of murder which occurred in Green Side Ext. 44 outside Westenburg in the early hours of this morning (Monday 1 January 2018).

It is alleged that around 03:30 two groups of men, one from Ext. 44 and the other one from Ext. 71, had started fighting due to an argument. The men assaulted each other with a various assortments of objects until two people from the one group were killed, reported Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

“One deceased was identified as a man from Ext. 71 and the other one is still unknown,” confirmed Ngoepe.

The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but the investigations will tell.

The suspects (aged 20 and 23) will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
