Giyani hospital staff ‘incompetent’, says minister
The Minister of Public Services and Administration, Faith Muthambi, has lambasted Khensani Hospital management and staff for incompetence after a recent unannounced visit to the hospital.
LIMPOPO – She lamented that poor management was clear at the hospital as the hospital was dirty and patients were sleeping on the floor due to a lack of beds. The hospital had a mosquito and cockroach infestation as well as a shortage of wheelchairs.
Patients were left waiting in queues for hours without medical attention and most of the doctors were on leave.
Muthambi was accompanied by Giyani Mayor, Sasavona Mathebula, Kate Bilankulu ANC member of National Assembly and Traditional Leaders.
“This needs urgent attention as this can’t be happening to our people.
“As govern-ment we can’t have our people suffer like this because someone is not doing their job,” Muthambi said.
One of the patients, Elizabeth Chauke, told Muthambi she had arrived at the hospital at 06:00 and still hadn’t received assistance by 16:00.
“We are so happy you came to this hospital to see what is going on.
“This is what we always meet whenever we visit the hospital. Drastic measures need to be taken which involves all stakeholders,” Chauke said.
“It has been a long time since I arrived at the hospital an I still haven’t received any help as they told us the doctors are not around. We urge you to help us minister.”
