Statistics of the outcome of a special traffic operation conducted by traffic officials from the Polokwane Municipality and the Police on Market Street in the vicinity of Railway Street, Ladanna last Thursday were unavailable by the time of going to print. Communications and Marketing Manager of the municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo pointed out road safety was the primary aim of the exercise.
He said such operations are conducted often to ensure road safety by checking vehicles’ safety features, driver fitness and outstanding traffic fines. He stated that the primary aim of the exercise was to ensure road safety and pointed out that such operations are not conducted at the same location.
Mothapo indicated that most operations are conducted together with the Police for motorists who were issued with warrants of arrest to be arrested on the spot. He said a taxi used by the traffic officials has special features such as a camera to scan the registration number of a vehicle from afar to check for outstanding road fines and the expiry date of the licence disc.
Mothapo urged motorists to keep their vehicles in good condition and comply with road regulations to avoid unnecessary traffic fines.
