Giyani and Phalaborwa prison escapes: two of six escapees re-arrested

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says police investigations into both incidents continue

LIMPOPO – Two out of the four awaiting trail prisoners who escaped from the Sekgosese Police Station holding cells on 13 March have been re-arrested and have since appeared in the local court.

Thabang Mashashane (25) and Lucky Nchaupa (20) appeared on charge of escaping from lawful custody and were remanded in custody until 28 March to allow for further police investigation, said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Sunnyboy Maleka (32) from Raphahlelo village and Sekgopotso Cafus Nakana (30) from Bolobedu, are still on the run, confirmed Ngoepe.

Meanwhile in Lulekane outside Phalaborwa, the police are still looking for the two awaiting trial prisoners,  Chris Matlou (27) and Jonathan Ngoako (28), who escaped from a police vehicle while being transported from prison to a court in Phalaborwa.

Ngoepea dded that police investigations into both incidents continue.

LIMPOPO – Police in Sekgosese outside Giyani have launched a massive manhunt for four awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from police holding cells on Tuesday night, 13 March.

The awaiting trial prisoners were arrested for the following crimes:

– Lucky Nchaupa (20) from Thakgalane village – Murder.

– Sunnyboy Maleka (32) from Raphahlelo village – Burglary.

– Sekgopotso Cafus Nakana (30)from Bolobedu – Armed Robbery.

– Thabang Mashashane (25) from Sephukhubje – Rape.

Meanwhile in Lulekane, outside Phalaborwa, police have also launched a massive manhunt for two awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from a police vehicle near Ga-Selwane village.

They were being transported from prison to appear before court in Phalaborwa.

They were identified as:

– Chris Matlou (27) who was arrested for rape and murder.
