LIMPOPO – Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has assembled a high level team of investigators to track down the suspects responsible for the bombing of a bus that was transporting night shift mine workers on Monday evening.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, six people were burnt beyond recognition after what seemed like a petrol bomb, was thrown at the bus by unknown suspects. The bus immediately caught fire.
“The incident took place at the Driekop village outside Burgersfort. The suspects targeted the bus soon after it stopped at the pickup point at around 20h00 and bombed it. Police were then alerted and reacted swiftly. On arrival, the bus had already burnt to ashes with six victims inside. It is understood others escaped through windows with burn wounds and were taken to hospital,” Ngoepe explained.
General Ledwaba has commanded the task team to hit the ground running in pursuit of the suspects saying they will not sleep until the people responsible for this gruesome incident are apprehended.
“We call on communities to assist the police in their quest to swiftly crack this case and any valuable information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality,” he added.
A monetary reward of up to R500 000 will be offered for any valuable information that can lead to the arrest and possible conviction of the suspects.
The police have opened six counts of murder following this incident.
