Marlen Arms & Ammo in Polokwane is a one stop business which stocks a wide variety of firearms and accessories and also includes Marlen Training Academy, where practical firearm training and class format theory on the Firearms Control Act are offered.
In the guns and ammunition shop, hunters, sports shooters and those looking for a weapon for self-protection will find a selection of guns, pistols and revolvers at very reasonable prices. Accessories like protective eye gear, telescopes and hats and shoes to complete the package, are also available. The business has a registered gunsmith on site to assist with adjustments and to offer advice.
The training academy boasts an underground shooting range that was constructed in 1995 and is approved for practical firearm training by the South African Professional Firearm Trainers Council (PFTC), the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) and the South African Police (SAPS). Marlen Training Academy expanded its service and offers assistance with the completion of SAPS forms for competency, renewal of firearm licences as well as new applications. They do motivations for all firearm applications as well as applications for security companies.
Owner of Marlen Training Academy, Martin Venter says that the academy was founded to assist and encourage firearm owners not to dispose of their firearms facing the requirements of the new legislation, but rather to qualify and retain their firearms.
Applicants for firearm licences are accommodated in a functional classroom where accredited PFTC facilitators, instructors, assessors and moderators ensure that they are prepared to pass the prescribed theoretical examinations.
The training academy provides courses in the handling and use of handguns, self-loading rifles and carbines, manual rifles and carbines as well as shotguns. A full course over three days includes a practical test with Marlen’s firearm and ammunition provided. The course includes a theoretical test as required in terms of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.
