Capricorn College for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is counted among the top performing colleges in the country and is a credible institution of higher learning.
This was emphasised by the Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Naledi Pandor during the official opening of the college’s central office last Thursday. She said the college was doing well academically and the newly launched cooperate flag, designed by the students, was an indication that the management was working closely with their students.
The programme also served as a farewell ceremony to former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Principal, Khorombi Madzhie, who officially retired after serving the college for over 15 years.
Acting Principal, Amos Thema stated that it would not have been easy to complete the building but for support from the department. He outlined that the department had supported the college financially and this enabled them to save money. “It is important to have a cooperate identity, that is why we decided to design our own flag which we will hoist next to the national flag. It will remind us daily that we have to carry out our mandate for us to account for our actions,” explained Thema.
He further indicated that, as the college’s first CEO and principal, Madzhie had built a solid foundation for them and wished him well.
When welcoming guests to the occasion, Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng said the building was approved by the Polokwane Council because education is important.
She touched on the issue of the planned Polokwane student accommodation in the city saying that the project has been approved and will have 4 500 beds.
Nkadimeng used the opportunity to urge residents to be patient while the municipality refurbishes the water infrastructure, adding that the projects are expected to be complete in the next 14 months.
