Educators from schools in the city and surrounds attended an educator learning opportunity that was hosted by EdTech Summit Africa (ETS Africa) at Mitchell House on Monday.
Professionals from ETS Africa, Stephanie Hayden, Kevin Baloyi, Taylor Deutsch, Kim Stuart, Lizzy Laidlaw and Anthony Egbers were the presenters and some of the interesting topics addressed in the sessions were ‘Technology tools for supporting pupils with learning disabilities’, ‘Teaching in the digital learning environment’, ‘Creating a culture of reading’ and ‘High impact literacy with local resources’.
Gugu Radebe, co-producer, said that the programme serves as an educator learning opportunity geared towards improving best practices through exposure to creative technology-rich strategies and solutions for teaching, learning, and assessment. ”EdTech Summit Africa seeks to provide free and high quality professional development that is hands-on, incorporating meaningful experiential learning that is inquiry-driven and designed to equip attendees with the skills, preparation, and confidence to adapt and employ newly learned methodologies into their schools, classrooms and learning environments,” Radebe explained.
According to Radebe, a global group of experienced education professionals are brought together from different regions around the world annually to partner with African educators to form an experienced and exciting team of facilitators with diverse skills who design and present workshops for interested teachers looking to grow not only their teaching toolkit but also their understanding of what is possible in order to apply new ideas to improve both student achievement and engagement in the classroom.
