William Mathipa, passionate Physical Sciences educator at Flora Park Comprehensive High School (FCHS) and the Capricorn South District winner in the category Excellence in teaching Physical Sciences of the National Teachers Awards is anxiously awaiting the results of the recent provincial challenge that could see him through to the nationals.
Mathipa was one of five educators from different schools who contested in the provincial challenge. It was his first participation in the competition and he managed a score of 69% to make it to the provincial round. He said he was confident of his success and looking forward to reaching the final round.
“I managed to produce a 100% pass rate for two consecutive years at my previous school, Boshego High School in 2016 and 2017. I introduced the subject at the school in 2015 and yet managed to produce such results. The competition is challenging but interesting and educators should participate in such events to gain knowledge,” he stated.
Principal Joseph Masekela said Mathipa was a hard working educator and he was confident that he would proceed to the national competition to represent the school and the province. He concluded by saying they recruited him to the school because of his passion for the subject and the fact that he produces good results. Mathipa joined Flora Park this year and Masekela indicated that they can already see improvement in the subject.
