Local general practitioner and healthcare organisation Redimed 24 warned residents about an employment scam in which criminals allegedly use the practice name to defraud job seekers.
Redimed 24 Manager Sonya van den Heever said criminals operated the same scam about two years ago and she became aware of its recent existence when she noticed an advertisement at the local post office on Monday.
The advertisement that has been put up at several locations across the city promotes vacancies at the practice for personal assistants to the eight doctors. One needs a grade 12 certificate and relevant diploma or degree in administration. A salary of R14 500 is on offer and the vacancy must be filled urgently.
“This is a scam and Redimed 24 distances itself from the advertisement. It was brought under our attention that criminals would ask applicants to deposit R350 into an account to secure an interview and training purposes should the application be successful,” Van den Heever said, adding that when the money is deposited the applicant would not hear anything from the criminal again.
She indicated that victims had been furious in the past and accused Redimed 24 of stealing their money. “I reiterate that there is no link between the advertisement and the practice,” she said.
Van den Heever said the incident was once again reported to the Police who referred her to the local media to alert residents.
