Mitchell House held their 2018 Sports Awards evening with special guest Caroline Grace of The Voice fame presenting the keynote address and motivating the young sports stars in the making to continue to follow their dreams until they become reality.
Both the school’s junior and senior sports teams in various codes were acknowledged for their hard work and dedication on the sports field this past year with a few special awards also being bestowed. Tumi Mahloko was named Mitchell House’s Star of the Stars. Among the award winners were Yoyo Muditambi, top goal scorer in the school, Humayd Dada, who received preparatory provincial colours for tennis, Hlaneki Vunene, honoured for preparatory provincial colours for netball, and Kathleen Petzer, college girls cricket player of the season. The player of the year and most improved player for each team in cricket, rugby, tennis, netball and hockey were also named. In college cricket Nicholas Petzer was named most improved player and Michael Botha received the title of player of the year.
Tinaye Muchandigona was bestowed the title of most improved player while Nthabiseng Shivambu was awarded as player of the year for preparatory netball. College netball players who were awarded were Reneilwe Kganyabo, most improved player and Tumi Mahloko, player of the year.
In girls hockey the stars in the preparatory team were Vunene Hlaneki, most improved player and Tinaye Muchandigona, player of the year. The stars of the college team were Thato Mdi, most improved player and Lufuno Nukeri, player of the year.
The college tennis award for most improved player went to Kgwadu Moloto and Rameez Omar was named player of the year while in the preparatory tennis team player of the year was Humayd Dada and Muhammad Zuhayr was named most improved player.
Mitchell House Sports Director Fred Romijn and Headmaster Andrew Cook also extended their praise and encouraged the young learners to continue to strive for excellence.
