Capricorn High School held its Governing Body Prize Giving and Matric Board Induction recently. Learners were honoured for their performance in academics and sport. Deserving and top performing learners were bestowed with academic honours, academic half and full colours, trophies and certificates of merit.
The names of learners selected to the 2019 Matric Board were announced and they were inducted by the principal, Lucas Chuene.
2018 Dux learner, Pheladi Dikgale was awarded the Hutton Memorial Shield as best academic pupil of the year. She received full academic honours and a scholarship. She also won the Capricorn High School Trophy for spoken Afrikaans First Additional Language, subject prizes in Geography and Afrikaans First Additional Language as well as certificates of merit in each of her seven subjects.
Disego Mogale received full academic honours and a scholarship, certificates of merit in all subjects and was named top academic Grade 12 learner in Accounting, Mathematics and Physical Sciences. She shared the position of top academic learner in English Home Language with Melinda Moyo. Melinda also won the Brighton Trophy for spoken English Home Language and was the top academic learner in Life Sciences. Karabo Mohale was named top academic pupil in Business Studies and Makgabe Phaladi received a book prize as most improved learner in the subject. Hlogi Rapudi came out tops in Life Orientation, Nyelethi Baloyi in History, Koketso Serumula in Economics and Temoso Mogoboya in Engineering Graphic Design. Ntsako Khosa topped the list in Xitsonga First Additional Language.
Academic full colours were also bestowed on Thendo Mukwevho, top academic learner in Tshivenda First Language and Clementine Mashiane who shared the Saba Rahimi Trophy for Information Technology with Shibu Modiba. Shibu was also named top academic pupil in English First Additional Language and received the Julius Motsifane Trophy for Sepedi Home Language. Fatima Chiloane was also awarded a Julius Motsifane Trophy for Sepedi First Additional Language. Both Shibu and Fatima received academic half colours.
Academic half colours were also given to Nyelethi Baloyi, Chuene Mathatho, Melinda Moyo, and Kgabu Tefu. The Tenax Medallion for progress through tenacity went to Lefentse Mafogo, Grade 12. The Leo Cup for unobtrusive service was shared by Grade 10 learners Mahlako Madonsela, Ofentse Lekgetha and Mamodike Mamambolo. The Valedictory Shield was presented to Mthuthuzeli Ramaphoko who was the Parade Sergeant Major in 2018.
Hlole Setati received the Mathey Trophy for top sportswoman of the year and Moraswi Maboya was named top sportsman of the year
Ayande Nyakane, Grade 10, was named most improved senior hockey player and received the Sonja Theron Trophy. She was also presented with the Marshall Trophy as top goal scorer in the first team and the Hudson Trophy as player of the year.
Hlole Setati, Grade 12, was named best senior netball player of the year and presented with the Luckhoff Trophy. She also accepted the Le Cornu Trophy for the team with the best spirit on behalf of the squad. Genesi Kekana, Grade 9, was bestowed with the Charmy Mdhluli Trophy for most dedicated senior player of the year.
Oher recipients are Kgaugelo Thaba, Grade 11 who was given the Tom Chauke Trophy as the soccer player with most flair. Mabotja Mashangoane, Grade 10, was proud to receive the NT Lephondo Trophy for most disciplined soccer player of the year. Junior Mabotja, Grade 11 received the Ark Printers Trophy for top goal scorer of the year and Lwazi Selepe, Grade 9, the Gerty Ferreira Trophy for best chess player of the year. Mahlako Kgomoeswana, Grade 11 accepted the Dior Intellect Trophy for best female debater of the year and Grade 10 learner Tsebo Sekole the Capricorn High School Trophy as best public speaker of the year.
