36-year-old man arrested in Polokwane for alleged tender corruption
He was allegedly involved in a security services tender issued by the Department of Education
POLOKWANE – A 36-year-old man was arrested at the Sasol garage along the N1 north earlier today (Monday) on a charge of corruption, the Hawk confirmed.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Capt Matmba Maluleke the arrest comes after he allegedly demanded a bribe from a complainant and tender applicant.
“The complainant alleged that he had applied for a tender to provide security services at schools around the province, a tender which had been issued by Department of Education. He further alleged that he received a call from the suspect who claimed to be an employee from the department and he demanded R100 000 in order to award the tender.”
The Hawk’s Serious Corruption Investigation unit set a trap and the suspect was arrested immediately after receiving the said bribe from the suspect.
The investigation is still ongoing and the suspect will appear at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of extortion and corruption.
