Former Motetema Police Sergeant arrested for stabbing his girlfriend and her twin before attempting suicide

The suspect was a police Sergeant attached to the Motetema police station and was dismissed from the police service two months ago after he was arrested for armed robbery that he committed in April 2018.

LIMPOPO – A former police Sergeant (38) was arrested on Tuesday, 27 November for attempting to murder his girlfriend and her twin sister in the Mmotwaneng village, outside Marblehall.

According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the incident took place on Sunday, 24 November when the suspect went to his girlfriend’s home and on arrival, broke the window of the room in which the victims were sleeping and started stabbing his girlfriend. His girlfriend’s twin sister was also stabbed when she attempted to rescue her sister. The suspect then disappeared and attempted to take his own life.

“Police, assisted by the K9 unit and the local community launched a search operation and the suspect was found on Tuesday, hiding at his friend’s place at Mmotoaneng. He was then arrested,” he said.

Ngoepe added that the suspect was a police Sergeant attached to the Motetema police station and was dismissed from the police service two months ago after he was arrested for armed robbery that he committed in April 2018.

“The victims were taken to hospital for medical treatment and the suspect will soon appear before the Motetema Magistrates Court, outside Groblersdal, on two counts of attempted murder. The motive for this brutal attack is still unknown at this stage, however, police investigations are continuing ”

Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned this attack this type of criminality will not be accepted, especially during 16 Days of Activism.
