POLOKWANE – The teenage years are often described as some of the most difficult year of growing up – from the mood changes to attitude and physical changes that take place, it can be a difficult process to go through. Parents are often at the forefront trying to ensure that their children don’t make any life changing mistakes, often to the detriment of their relationship with their young ones. We spoke to learners from Capricorn High School to find out what they wish parents understood about being a teenager.
Tumi Mandyme – ” Parents are closed minded and don’t open that lines of communication with their children. There are certain things we wish we were able to speak to them about but they think it’s disrespectful”
Angel Ntsoane – ” I agree with my friend that parents don’t understand sexuality. People care too much about other people’s sexuality. We are all sinning, we don’t care what you call it. I f God is love, then why is my sexuality classified as sin?”
Chuene Kooko – ” Parents just don’t understand sexuality. Sexuality is a spectrum, I am who I am, my sexuality does not define me, accept me as I am. “

Madichaba Gumbo – ” They don’t understand that as teenagers we need space sometimes. They don’t understand that our generation is different from theirs and that we need to socialize to be street smart”
Reneilwe Buba – “The problem with parents is that they don’t trust us. When we say we are going somewhere they don’t trust us but what they don’t realize is that us staying indoors means not having friends, not having a social life and not having meaningful life experiences.”
