Tshepo Mathabatha was appointed as chairperson of the Limpopo branch of the Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (Bwasa) at the organisation’s annual general meeting at Uhuru Lifestyle Emporium last Thursday.
Mathabatha succeeds Mmabogoshi Msiza, who was the chairperson from 2016 when the branch was established. Delivering the annual report for 2018/19, Msiza said that it was time to bring new life into the branch and that she is confident that Mathabatha will take Bwasa Limpopo to new levels.
“I will still attend executive committee meetings and be available to facilitate a smooth transmission to the new executive council,” Msiza assured.
“The challenges of woman empowerment is getting more and more complex and Bwasa has a big role to play in this regard,” Msiza added.
Msiza reported that the executive committee resolved last Tuesday to appoint Mathabatha as the new chairperson and called for the AGM to endorse the appointment, which was done unanimously.
The new chairperson will now appoint the new executive committee comprising current members as well as others that will include representatives from outside Polokwane. In a short address, Mathabatha said that she wants to be one of those women that lends a hand to others in need.
“My aim will be to enhance the position of women in business and provide information and assistance to get them going. We have a lot of skills among us that should be transferred to new entrants into the business sector and we can offer a lot of practical advice.” Mathabatha said.
