Review wins big at the Caxton Excellence Awards
Best Emerging Newspaper, Best Classified Advertisement Feature and Best Contribution to The Citizen were the three awards that Review scooped up at the lavish award ceremony in Pretoria

Bonus Review has, for the second consecutive year, won the title as Best Emerging Newspaper, when the Caxton Excellence Awards were handed out at a stylish Renaissance themed ceremony held in Pretoria on Thursday.
Cementing BONUS as a top local newspaper, readers need look no further than the judges’ comment on why the newspaper has the attention of the local market.
Describing their decision, judges said they simply loved the strong, bold and vibrant front pages and the excellent news mix.
“The layout is superb and the photos are used well. The focus on local celebrities and personalities inside add a nice touch. The newspaper is a true reflection of the community with lots of faces and social events covered inside. The newspaper has excellent school news pages and interesting stories on the entertainment pages. It is a complete package – a sterling example of what a local newspaper should look like.”
Staffers Tshidi Sechaba, Junior Rebombo, Samantha Alexander and Lerato Monareng won the award for Best Classified Advertisement Feature in Print and/or Digital, with judges commenting that advertisements were designed in a similar style and the spaces between the ads worked well to de-clutter.
Digital Journalist Raeesa Kimmie won the award for Best Contribution to The Citizen.
Judges felt her articles incorporated all multimedia available to online news publications and have taken on both serious and feel-good news stories, as well as breaking stories. “Her stories are a pleasure to upload onto The Citizen’s website, and perform well in website statistics. The passion in her writing is palpable, and her range of interest, from investigating viral videos to breaking down legal content and doing weather reports, makes her an adaptable and promising reporter.”
Northern Media Group’s staff furthermore outdid themselves by means of special mention.
