Marlen Arms & Ammo in Polokwane is the place to go when planning a hunting trip or simply searching for a new or reliable used firearm for self-protection or leisure.
This one stop business stocks a wide variety of firearms and accessories and also includes Marlen Training Academy, where practical firearm training and class format tuition on the Firearms Control Act are offered.
In the guns and ammunition shop, hunters, sports shooters and those looking for a weapon for self-protection will find a selection of rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers at very reasonable prices. For those interested in taking up sport shooting, accessories like protective eye gear, telescopes and hats and shoes to complete the package, are also available. The business has a registered gunsmith on site to assist with adjustments and to offer advice on the right items to purchase.
The training academy boasts an underground shooting range that was constructed in 1995 and is approved for practical firearm training by the South African Professional Firearm Trainers Council (PFTC), the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) and the South African Police (SAPS). Marlen Training Academy offers assistance with the completion of SAPS forms for competency, renewal of firearm licences as well as new applications. They prepare motivations for all firearm applications as well as applications for security companies.
The training academy provides courses in the handling and use of handguns, self-loading rifles and carbines, manual rifles and carbines as well as shotguns. A full course over three days includes a practical test with Marlen’s firearm and ammunition provided as well as a theoretical test as required in terms of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.
Applicants for firearm licences are accommodated in a functional classroom where accredited PFTC facilitators, instructors, assessors and moderators ensure that students are prepared to pass the prescribed theoretical examinations.
Marlen Training Academy’s vision is to deliver a service that is supportive and honest, always to be fair and valid in all decisions that have to be taken and to be totally committed to a responsive, secure and safe society.
Their mission is never to back away from commitment, to honour their commitments to the law and society and to promote responsible and safe firearm handling.
Owner of Marlen Training Academy, Martin Venter says that the academy was founded to assist and encourage firearm owners not to dispose of their firearms facing the requirements of the new legislation, but rather to qualify and retain their firearms. “The latest court rulings regarding ownership of firearms will not have an influence on our business,” Venter reckoned.
